A first-year Meteorology student prevailed in First Place during the recently held 27th Philippine Statistics Quiz (PSQ) Leyte Provincial and Tacloban City Eliminations with the theme "The Search for the Country's Young Statistics Whizzes" last September 29, at the Summit Hotel, Tacloban City, Leyte.

Mr. Vianney P. Tumbagahan surpassed other contenders from different universities in Leyte Province and is now a guaranteed delegate for the approaching PSQ Regional Eliminations.

In an interview with AMARANTH, Tumbagahan shared that his Grade 12 Research teacher reintroduced statistics in a whole new way, and it was also a time when surveys were fundamental to understanding the future of our country, the field that teaches him something in return.

"I met a lot of people and learned new things. It is also quite hectic. During the course of this competition, we (along with my colleagues) were selected by the VSU Statistical Society. It was really fun, tiring, but at the same time rewarding, both in the end, with the support of my classmates, and the friends I made along," said Tumbagahan.

Tumbagahan also shared that he had the utmost experience during the PSQ Provincial Elimination as he believed he performed well, especially on the economics questions.

Further, Tumbagahan plans to focus more on areas where he lacked as part of his preparation for the upcoming regional tilt as he overlooked some of the formulas during his recent performance at Tacloban.

“I've been relying too heavily on my multiple-choice logic that sometimes it can get the best of me. I think just practicing would be the key to learning more. One thing I really learned is that I should take care of my body, and that means more sleep for me. I really should start not fearing sleep," said Tumbagahan.

Tumbagahan is one among three Viscans who represented the Visayas State University (VSU) at the provincial contest after winning the Statistics Quiz Show 2023 by the VSU Statistical Society, at the Department of Statistics, last September 25.
